LOST - “The End”
I’ve never seen an episode of LOST. There’s a guy who plays in a band called Driveshaft. He’s played by Jeremy Davies who plays Dickie Bennett on Justified. There’s another I recognize from the LoTR films. He’s destined to play bass for driveshaft at a show some guy attends who might be a priest or something. He assures the bass player’s mom that her son is safe and I have no reason to doubt him. Bass player spots a pregnant blonde woman in the audience and I think maybe they have a history together. She gives birth backstage with help from a brunette who experiences flashbacks.
On an island in what seems like an alternate reality or a time so long ago that all the characters have repressed deeply, Locke (or someone wearing his face) kidnaps Edmund and with help from reluctant Matthew Fox, lowers him down a well. Once at the bottom, he goes to where the light is brightest and steps into waters that instantly send shocks through him. He lifts a boulder out from a crevasse at the center and with that, the island begins to shake violently.
Everyone needs to get off the island but not before Matthew Fox and the brunette kill Locke. In alternating scenes, Matthew Fox is a doctor and he has a conversation with Locke - this time a patient just coming to from surgery. Locke tries to make the doctor remember his life on the island. Everyone tries to make everyone else remember their lives on the island. Migraine-inducing flashbacks ensue. Island Matthew Fox gets lowered back into the well to undo what Edmund did. The guys get a crashed airplane working and triumphantly take flight. It’s like flight of the Phoenix I think. One of them is or was a pilot.
The light returns to the well and the guys try to lift Matthew Fox back out but the rope comes up empty. One of them, I’m pretty sure, is a channel between both worlds. Early in the episode, he seems to be the only character fully aware of all that happened on the island. He casually shoots bass player with a tranquilizer gun and delivers him to driveshaft. Elsewhere at the hospital, a police detective brushes past Matthew Fox in the hallway before sharing the most epic of meetcutes with another doctor at a vending machine - complete with flashbacks or perhaps flash forwards of their time together on the island. Really hard to tell which it is.
Matthew Fox the doctor misses the driveshaft show but reunites(?) with the brunette woman. He wanders into a chapel and encounters an empty coffin. Suddenly it all comes rushing back. Then his dead father appears to him and questions the very basis of his existence. I think he died at the well. Everyone has been dead for some time now, his father tells him. Suddenly everyone from the island is gathered in the chapel. I’m assuming no one made it off the island alive. Maybe the people in the airplane did. Matthew Fox definitely died on the island. He took his final breaths to the sound of a dog barking.
I’m pretty sure I’m all caught up on LOST now.
